Turandot
Opera by Giacomo Puccini
a paper project for the McCaw Hall

This production of Turandot takes inspiration from the Chinese myth of Mount Penglai, a magical land that is always in spring and is said to hold the elixir of immortality. In my design, the land is locked in winter as the Princess Turandot terrorizes the land and refuses to marry due to the rape of her ancestor. In the final scene of the opera, the world is restored to springtime when Princess Turandot professes her love for her suitor, Calaf, and the barren landscape transforms into a blooming paradise once more.
